堺の刃物は鍛冶職人、研ぎ職人と分業したそれぞれの熟練した技から生み出される包丁です。
野村祥太郎さんの製品は柄の附近に初心者様な刻印と裏の刻印があります。

野村さんは昭和の名人である伊野氏に師事し、上物とは何たるかを叩き込まれました。並師（家庭用の包丁を作る職人）が質はほどほどで数をこなすのに対し、伊野氏は『一本でもよいので良い品を作りなさい』と言ったそうです。
野村さんは独立後もその教えを守り、どんな注文に対しても高いレベルの仕事（刃付け）をしてきました。
他の職人が3工程するところを4、5工程行い、初見の美しさだけではなく、使うほどにその良さを実感する“研ぎ”を実践されています。
職人歴50年以上の上物を作る刃付け職人は堺では数少なく、その技術を学びに来る若い職人は後を絶ちません。
